What is WSMP?
The water and sanitation monitoring platform (WSMP) is the name of an ACP-EU Water facility-funded project which is being implemented in Ghana, Mozambique and Nigeria. The project concerns the establishment and operation of national water and sanitation sector monitoring platforms in these countries.
Why WSMP?
At the national level, monitoring has failed to accelerate decisions about national sector investment, sub-sector resource allocation, sub-national disbursing, accountability of funds and actual disbursement.
Equally, civil society does not have readily available relevant information (data) to challenge or support sector decisions irrespective of its level of engagement.
It is a common feature too that national data streams are not harmonized and data literacy is poor. As a consequence, stakeholders are neither aware of, nor making use of existing mechanisms that produce such data.
How can WSMP help?
Each national water and sanitation monitoring platform generates and disseminates at regular intervals sector specific data and information to orient policy and decision making and also to provide an indication of the progress of the country towards the achievement of the MDG targets on drinking water and sanitation.
How does WSMP work?
The WSMP comprises nationally established platforms as described above. Each platform is composed of:
The platforms work with national sector stakeholders to generate and disseminate sector specific data and information. For more information, visit the platform pages by clicking on the 'Platforms' tab at the top of the page.
